1. Who is the Holy Spirit – God’s Spirit living in us
= John 15 vs 26, 16 vs 7-8, 13-15
• He is a person
• Communicates God’s truth
• Convicts us of sin
• Convinces us that God’s ways are right
• Brings comfort
• Guides us – into God’s presence
• Gives gifts (gifts of the Spirit)
• Produces Godly character (fruit of the Spirit)
Jean Du Plessis – remembering the Holy Spirit
2. Desire for more
= applying ourselves – applying ourselves in one season prepares us for the next – instant world – revival, Bill Johnson, Benny Hinn
Philippians 3 vs 16
Psalm 63 vs 1-2 – flesh ‘longs’ for God
- soul ‘thirsts’ for God
Isaiah 26 vs 9 (KJV) – spirit ‘seeks’
Progression – Moses’ tabernacle
- Outer court = symbolic of the flesh
- Holy place = symbolic of the soul
- Holy of Holies = symbolic of the spirit
Longing takes us to the Outer Court
Thirsting takes us to the Holy Place
Seeking takes us to the Holy of Holies
As we long for God we go into prayer – God deals with + crucifies the flesh = place of struggle – our guilt
- our failures
- our needs
- repeat ourselves over + over
- God feels a million miles away
- We feel that our prayers hit the ceiling
- We want to fall asleep/take a break
- The longer we are on our knees, the less of the flesh remains – a death begins as we are on our knees
As we die to ourselves a breakthrough comes – we feel it
- Suddenly prayer becomes real
- River gushes out from our inmost being
- Our souls connect
- Guilt and frustration go and we are filled with His peace and joy and His love
- We have dealt with our sins and experience + enjoy His presence
- Psalm 42 vs 1-2 = our souls thirst for God’s presence
- Deer seeks water because he is thirsty and because he is being chased by another animal
- We thirst for the presence of God because it satisfies our souls and because no enemy can touch us there – place of safety = refuge
- Everything becomes beautiful
Holy of Holies – Psalm 63 vs 2 – David speaks of wanting to see God’s ‘power and glory’ – comes with the 3rd stage of the price, the seeking and dying to self that comes before the anointing
- In the HoH our spirits commune with His Sprit
- It is the place where you say nothing and do nothing
- You don’t pray, you don’t sing, you receive
- Outer court our mouths talk to God
- Holy Place our souls talk
- HoH our spirit talks – deep calling unto deep (Psalm 42 vs 7)
- Prayer without ceasing is born
- Basking in the glory of God
- Not longing, not thirsting, but drinking
- Not interested in what he can do for us, we are interested in knowing him
3. Presence, communion + power (anointing)
= sowing seeds in the secret place – Matthew 6 vs 5-6
= applying ourselves in one season prepares us for the
next
= Deacons = men ‘full of the Holy Spirit’ and of wisdom
= Acts 4 vs 13
